I am a 48-year-old female who last year started a low-dose (12.5) a day of HCTZ and within a month wound up in the ER w/ low potassium and severe rhythm disturbances. I went off it and continued w/ Propranolol. My BP yesterday was 150/98. My doctor is going to wean me off the Propranolol, but I'm scared to death (and of it) that the HCTZ was the cause of my trip to the ER. I honestly felt like I was going to die. I see my doctor in 4 weeks, but I'm wondering whether I should take Potassium supplement until then or just drink/eat as much OJ and bananas a day as possible.
